Does Your Pet Wear a Cat
Flea Collar?
Do you do the best you
can for your pet by buying him a cat flea collar. My cat
always wears one but have you noticed that most cat flea
collars don't appear to work? Mine don't last for a day let
alone the three or four months that they should. I've no
idea why this is but I'm going to suggest some different
ways of dealing with the problem.
There is poison in cat flea collars to kill the fleas. This
is something else that I don't like about cat flea collars,
or dog flea collars. This poison can cause irritation or
soreness in humans. If my pet's cat collar can do this to us
then they might have a similar effect on your pet.
There are alternative ways of dealing with the fleas. You
can try a shampoo that is designed to kill fleas. Cats don't
like water though and mine would scratch me to bits if I
tried this. If you do give the shampoo a go, don't expect
your cat to talk to you again for the next few days.
My vet recommends a product that stops the fleas
reproducing. You need to apply this substance to the back of
your cat's neck every 3 months for it to work properly. You
have to remember that this does not kill the fleas but it
does stop them multiplying. You have to wait a few months
before you see it having any effect. You can speed the
process up by removing the fleas with a comb.
Daily use of the flea comb not only controls the fleas but
it's soothing and a great stress reliever. I think that my
cat likes it too even though she will shout at me if I do it
for too long. If your cat has fleas then you will see them
on the comb. The hard part is catching and killing them
before they vanish by jumping away. When you catch them you
must crush them in between two hard surfaces.
De-flea your carpets and furniture too. Fleas jump off your
cat and live in your carpets and furniture until another
animal comes along. You should spray everything with a
suitable anti-flea spray or they will just reappear again
later. Make sure that you follow the instructions on the
label before you use it.
If your pet has a flea problem then consider some of the
alternatives that I've mentioned above before you run out
and buy a cat flea collar. |
